The October sun is shining a little lower in the sky and leaves are crunching underfoot. Even with our family’s fall routine in swing, we’re feeling like it’s time for some cool weather activities, like mid-day walks, creepy crafts, and smoothies made with Nancy’s Organic Kefir.
MAKE THE MOST OF MID-DAY LIGHT
Fresh air and exercise are great for health and happiness year-round, so it’s wise to shift plans along with the weather. Darkness falls earlier in colder months and lingers in the mornings. So, like us, you might enjoy fall colors while taking mid-day walks. Not only is it brighter out, but we’ve learned, it’s easier to recruit walking buddies when they’re already up from their warm beds. And if they need a little incentive, you can always take snacks to enjoy along the path. Once exercise is done, you’ll have more time in the evening for getting cozy and making family fun indoors.
CRAFT AN UPCYCLE SPIDER
Kids love creepy crafts, and grown-ups do too. This upcycle spider idea is super cute and simple to make. Start with an empty Nancy’s container from your afternoon snack!
SUPPLIES PER SPIDER
- One clean, dry Nancy’s Yogurt cup
- Craft scissors
- Colored craft paper
- Craft glue or double-sided tape
- Pens and pencils for decorating
- Three long, black pipe cleaners, or six shorter ones
- Two or more ‘googly’ eyes
DIRECTIONS
- Place an empty yogurt container upside down on a table. Imagine expressive eyes, fur or fangs. Get creative!
- Meanwhile, use scissors to cut a piece of colored craft paper roughly into thirds, adjusting one of the lengths to cover the cup.
- Secure the paper at the back with craft glue or double-sided tape. Keep leftover lengths for future spiders. Remember, where there’s one, there’s more!
- Use pens and pencils to draw a frightening face on one side of your paper-covered cup (opposite the seam). Don’t forget the fur and fangs!
- Use closed scissors to pierce three small lateral holes on each side (in alignment). Thread three long pipe cleaners through to make six spindly legs. Be sure to bend his knees and toes (the better to skitter across your nose).
- Lastly, add some ‘googly’ eyes to finish your spider’s expression. Add as many as you dare…
